Rally racing doesn't have a huge following in the US and there are a few reasons why. First off, our car culture is predominantly focused towards drag and circuit racing. Secondly, rally racing requires vast, open areas, often off-road, and these can be hard to find making it less accessible for many. Plus, the sport doesn't get as much media coverage compared to others like NASCAR. Finally, the cost of rally cars and their maintenance can be quite high which can be a deterrent for potential enthusiasts.

Rally and Rallycross are two different forms of motorsport. Rally is an event that takes place on public or private roads, with multiple stages over a single day or multiple days, while Rallycross involves races that take place on tracks that are usually a combination of dirt and tarmac, and which are often much shorter than rally stages. Rally cars are typically very lightweight, and are built with the intention of having more nimble handling and better traction on loose surfaces than Rallycross cars, which are heavier and built for more grip on tarmac surfaces. Rallycross cars also feature aerodynamic enhancements that are not allowed in the rally discipline. As a result, Rallycross is generally faster and more exciting than Rally.
